Custom Capabilities

Physitemp specializes in the manufacture of Type T (copper-constantan) thermocouples. Small flexible sensors are in demand for use in medical applications where high accuracy and interchangeability are required. Type T wire is widely recognized as being the accurate thermocouple material for bioscience applications. Accuracy of +/- 0.1ºC in the physiological range is possible and the probes are completely interchangeable. Physitemp has pioneered the development of a medical grade specification.

Many of the probes in Physitemp’s standard product catalog were the result of individual customer’s request for small accurate probes for use in unique applications. Physitemp’s Engineers are always on hand to provide expert advice on which probes to use for a specific application and to suggest modifications to our existing designs, or create completely new ones, when our standard probes do not fit special requirements.

OEM Capabilities: Physitemp instruments provides custom high accuracy OEM thermocouple probe assemblies to many prestigious medical device manufacturers who incorporate temperature monitoring into their products. Physitemp is a manufacturer of proprietary high accuracy thermocouple wire in a variety of wire gauges and insulations for different applications. The wire gauges include 44, 40, 36, 30, 26, 24 and insulations of polyurethane, isonel, polyimide, TFE and FEP Teflon, PVC and nylon are available off the shelf in most cases.

The size and shape of our thermocouple sensor is accurately controlled and repeatable. We can supply both insulated and non-insulated thermocouple sensors depending on requirements. Termination methods can include bare stripped ends, stripped and tinned ends and standard or custom thermocouple connectors. Convenient packaging is available in individual tube or on reels to facilitate processing at the OEM’s facility. Alternative methods of packaging are available at customers request.

In each step of production we test or products 100% to ensure continuity, physical dimensional stability and temperature accuracy. For those customers who need thermocouple instrumentation, Physitemp can also provide assistance in choosing one of our standard instruments or technical support in the design of highly stable and accurate temperature monitoring equipment.
